Conveying Palm Oil Seed Assistance to Honduras, Coordinating Minister Airlangga Emphasizes the Importance of Strengthening Cooperation in Palm Oil Producing Countries
Jakarta, March 20th, 2023
The government continue to encourages various solutions to overcome the potential food crisis that is projected to hit various countries. One commodity that has the potential to become an important solution that must be considered is palm oil, which is edible oil or vegetable oil.
Related to this effort, the Governments of Indonesia and Malaysia through the Council of Palm Oil Producing Country (CPOPC) have also sent assistance of more than 100,000 germinating palm oil seeds to help hundreds of small Honduran farmers who were affected by the hurricane in 2020.
"This donation initiative is very appropriate to show our commitment to collaboration and solidarity among palm oil producing countries," said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto when delivering a virtual keynote speech at The Shipment Ceremony of Germinated Seed (GS) Delivery to Honduras, Monday (20/03).
On this occasion, the Coordinating Minister Airlangga also welcomed Honduras as a new member of CPOPC and expressed his appreciation to various related parties who had ensured the availability of seeds, administrative completeness, and timely logistics for the smooth delivery of the germinating seeds.
“I want to reiterate the importance of strengthening alliances among palm oil producing countries and so that CPOPC can take a bigger role in the future. This effort of germinating seeds must be seen as one step for the journey of a thousand miles to come," concluded Coordinating Minister Airlangga.
Also attending the event were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Plantations and Commodities of Malaysia, Minister of Agriculture Honduras, Secretary General of MPC, Ambassador of Indonesia to Panama, and Advisor from the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta. (dft/tam/map/fsr)
