Jakarta, December 21st, 2022

Responding to the demographic bonus that is projected to occur in Indonesia in 2030, the Government continues to encourage competency and Human Resource development in various sectors. These are also needed to response to supply chain disruptions due to the current pandemic and geopolitical turmoil.

During the initial audience and discussion of the UGM Mechanical Engineering Study Program Advisory Board Period 2022-2026, Tuesday (20/12), the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized human resources as crucial factor in the industrial and mechanical engineering sector. Strengthening human resource could also developed by cooperation with other countries.

“ASEAN is becoming a region with a positive outlook in the next 2 to 3 years. From the EU-ASEAN Business Summit, almost 90% of business people went to ASEAN. This is an opportunity that we can seize, if we don't take it from a human development perspective, then of course Indonesia will be scattered,” said the Coordinating Minister Airlangga.

Coordinating Minister Airlangga also discussed a number of priority issues in various international forums related to the engineering industry, started from the global supply chain, green economy, energy transition, to digital transformation. Regarding digital transformation. Minister Airlangga said that Government is focusing on building various digital infrastructures to support connectivity, such as provision of the Palapa Ring Fiber Optic Network, Base Transceiver Station (BTS) Towers, Satellites, to the construction of National Data Centers in a number of strategic locations.

Furthermore, related to mobility, the Government is also trying to continue to support the development of the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem by accelerating investments made by various companies and encouraging companies under Inalum to produce batteries to meet global market needs.

On this occasion, Minister Airlangga also motivated the academic community to participate in encouraging the implementation of smart farming or modernizing the agricultural sector to support food security. It is important since Indonesia has vast land, a large population, and is supported by a demographic bonus so it needs to be utilized properly. (dft/rep/iq)
